چکیده

Aims: Mutans streptococci include Streptococcus mutans and sobrinus, which can cause tooth decay. The current study aimed to compare their virulence genes with each other correlate them the clinical data of patients. Materials methods: Altogether 21 S. 19 sobrinus strains were investigated, originating from 24 children (age 2.7 ± 0.4 years) 13 mothers (27.3 3.7). PCR method was applied detect 11 genes. Caries indices (dmf, decayed/missing/filled; DMFT, decayed/missing/filled teeth) SM score (Mutans amount in saliva) recorded. Results: Most harbored all studied, while had significantly fewer gbpA, gbpB, wapA ftf present isolates spaP, gtfB, vicR, SMU.1037c SMU.105 41–88% isolates, gtfD SMU.104 absent studied. A positive correlation appeared between biofilm-related vicR polysaccharide-production-related In contrast, another gtfB gene some cases lacking or gene. Positive association found presence adhesion-related spaP pediatric-derived an increase score. Conclusions: Differences exist two common species streptococci: have more than that both crucial enhancing. Deeper research is needed clarify mechanisms behind increased cariogenicity cohabitation.

Chamaecyparis obtusa Suppresses Virulence Genes in Streptococcus mutans

Chamaecyparis obtusa (C. obtusa) is known to have antimicrobial effects and has been used as a medicinal plant and in forest bathing. This study aimed to evaluate the anticariogenic activity of essential oil of C. obtusa on Streptococcus mutans, which is one of the most important bacterial causes of dental caries and dental biofilm formation. Essential oil from C. obtusa was extracted, and its ...

Differentiation of banding patterns between Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus isolates in rep-PCR using ERIC primer

BACKGROUND Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus are considered to be important bacterial species in the initiation of human dental caries. Therefore, the establishment of a reliable genotyping method to distinguish S. mutans from S. sobrinus is of central importance. OBJECTIVE We assessed the usefulness of repetitive extragenic palindromic polymerase chain reaction (rep-PCR) using ...
